The Shanghai Automotive Group has signed a ground-breaking co-operation deal with the Haier Group.

(ATF) Domestic appliance specialists the Haier Group and the Shanghai Automotive Group are to team up on projects as the digital integration of home, travel and work continues apace.

The two firms signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Thursday outlining plans to work together on the application and promotion of smart home ‘interconnection’, new energy and intelligent vehicles.

Jin Tai Info reports that the two parties have already begun exploration in the fields of ‘intelligent manufacturing’ and ‘user-personalised customisation’.

According to the agreement, the two parties will also cooperate in depth in the research and development of new technologies and materials for lightweight vehicles, and the application of smart driving in smart logistics and other scenarios.

The deal stresses there will be integration in joint research and development, channel sharing and a focus on ‘building a new ecology based on car home interconnection’.

The cooperation between the two parties is the result of a strategic cooperation between Qinghu and Shanghai enterprises with the firms looking to build a shared ecosystem developing products for smart travel, smart logistics and smart homes.

Haier, which designs, develops, manufactures and sells refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, microwave ovens, mobile phones, computers and TVs, has pushed its way into 160 countries and regions around the world, serving 1 billion user families worldwide.

It also owns three listed companies – Haier Smart Home, Haier Biomedical, and Yingkang Life. 

The Shanghai Automotive Group (SAIC) Group is a Chinese state-owned automotive design and manufacturing company headquartered in Shanghai, with multinational operations and can also claim ownership of the Maxus, Roewe, MG and Nanjing Automobile brands.
